Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I become a Christian?

The ABCs of Becoming a Christian

A Acknowledge your need for God
Romans 3:23 says "For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 6:23 says "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
B Believe in Jesus Christ
John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world He gave His only Son, so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life."
Romans 5:1 says "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
C Confess Christ as your Savior and Lord and Commit your life to Him
Romans 10:9-10 says "...if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."
Acts 2:21 says "...everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

You may receive Christ as your Savior and enter the family of God by praying the following prayer:

Dear God, I realize I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I ask you now to come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Thank you for dying for me; help me now to live for you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

5. What makes a Baptist a Baptist?

In the most basic sense, the Baptist heritage begins with a commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ. In seeking to define and live out that gospel, Baptists rely on numerous traditions that shape their understanding of the gospel itself. Examined individually, these doctrines are not exclusively Baptist; other groups of Christians maintain them in various forms. Taken together, however, the doctrines help us define what it means to be a Baptist. Baptist historian Robert G. Torbet offers the following six “identifying marks” or doctrines which characterize Baptists.

1) The sacred scriptures as the sole norm for faith and practice.
(Baptists stress the authority of Holy Scripture).

2) The New Testament church is composed of baptized believers.
(Personal faith in Christ is necessary for baptism and church
membership.)

3) The priesthood of the believer.
(All believers may come directly to God through Jesus Christ.)

4) The autonomy of the local church.
(Each congregation is its own authority under Christ.)

5) The principle of religious liberty.
(Each individual is responsible to God for decisions about religious
experience.)

6) Separation of church and state.
(The state may neither deny the individual religious faith nor compel a
person to accept it.)
